Artist's Bio
Rik van Dyke Rik van Dyke is a Canadian cartoonist, film director, costume designer and screenwriter. In the field of commercial art, Rik has been a professional since fourteen years old, having spent over twenty years designing company logos, t-shirts, painting murals and window art, doing television storyboarding and various freelance illustration. As a cartoonist and writer, Rik has published his own comic books including ‘Demented Comix’, ‘Vagabonds’, ‘The Canadian Shield’, and ‘Joe Spliff’. He has been attending comic book and sci-fi conventions since 1992 to promote and pitch his properties, having had tables at ‘Con-version’, ‘Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo’ and ‘San Diego Comic -Con’. Rik has been designing and building original costumes for competitive costuming showcases, winning many cash prizes and honing his skills in the areas of design, sculpting, and sewing. He has built professional mascot outfits for international sports teams and designed and co-constructed costumes for the Central Alberta Theatre’s 2009 production of ‘Alice In Wonderland’. Recently, he has turned this skill towards his own personal movie projects. Writing and directing movies is a particular passion for Rik van Dyke, having done a 45 minute sci-fi production (Past Tense) in cooperation with ‘Shaw Cable’ and ‘Red Deer College’, a 35 minute retro sci- fi movie serial (Crash Corben: Last Of The Rocketmen), and an 8 minute ‘slice of life’ comedy (Restricted Adult) which will be entered into 2010 film festivals. He is currently in pre-production on a 20 minute horror/western (Bloodbeast) which he will be shooting in late 2010. Rik can be reached for commissions and co-ops at: |
